Listening to a singing bowl begins quite simply by sitting in a relaxed manner.
-
Hold the bowl in the palm of your hand, or on a soft firm cushion or a rubber ring.
-
Let the sound ring out. Listen to it with closed eyes. Start by experiencing the sound as a whole.
-
Once you are familiar with the sound of the bowl, you can begin to listen to it analytically.
-
To distinguish the pitch of the various notes and to get to know and understand the nature of every tone, it is worth remembering that sound has a form and a wavelength.
-
Try and distinguish the pulse of the various tones
-
Is the sub-harmonic tone vibrating faster or slower than the dominant base note ?
-
Do they harmonise with each other ?
-
Is one tone exactly two or three times faster than the other, or is the difference more difficult to measure .
